Why is Jesus the SON OF GOD?
"BUT THESE ARE WRITTEN, THAT YE MIGHT BELIEVE THAT JESUS IS THE CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD, AND THAT BELIEVING YE MIGHT HAVE LIFE THROUGH HIS NAME; (JOHN:20:31). As per this verse if we believe that Jesus is the "SON OF GOD".The general meaning of the son of God is the person who was born to god.
So, can we believe that Jesus was born to god? the bible says that "JESUS IS THE EVERLASTING FATHER (ISIAH 9:6)". How can an everlasting father be born? and also Jesus said that "IAM THE FIRST AND THE LAST(REV:1:19)".If Jesus was born how Jesus would be the first person? Bible says that "JESUS IS CREATOR(HEBREW:1;10,11)".If Jesus was born he would be the creation. is it possible that a creator becomes a creation?. one of the deity aspects is eternity. If Jesus was the birth in creation how can we believe that Jesus is God?
The bible clearly says that Jesus is god. (isiah:9:6,john:1:10).So definitely we have to think about the meaning of "SON OF GOD".
"IMMEDIATELY JESUS STRETCHED OUT HIS HAND, TOOK HOLD OF HIM, YOU OF THE LITTLE FAITH WHY DID YOU DOUBT? WHEN THEY GOT UP IN THE BOAT THE WIND CEASED. THOSE WHO WERE IN THE BOAT CAME AND WORSHIPPED HIM, SAYING YOU ARE TRULY SON OF GOD (MATHEW:14;31-33)".
In this context definitely, there is a relation between the word "SON OF GOD" and the wind ceased, and the important noted thing is that they worshipped Jesus. why did they worship him if he is the creation?"IF YOU ARE SON OF GOD CAME DOWN FROM CROSS(MAT:27;40)
If we concentrate on the above verse, We can understand that there is a relation between the word"SON OF GOD" AND COMING DOWN FROM THE CROSS." then he(Jesus) said to them but who do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered you are the Christ, the son of living god. JESUS ANSWERED HIM, BLESSED ARE YOU SIMON BAR JONAH, FOR FLESH AND BLOOD HAS NOT REVEALED THIS TO YOU, BUT MY FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN(MATHEW 16;15-17)"in this context, somebody said about Jesus that he was Jeremiah and some say that john the baptist and Elijah and somebody said the prophet. But, peter strongly said you are not like that, you are the son of God.
we note that Elijah, Jeremiah, and john the baptist and prophets and Simon peter also sons of God. but why peter said that especially Jesus is the son of god? Surely there is a special meaning that Jesus is the son of God.
Let's see " PAUL FILLED WITH HOLY SPIRIT FASTENED HIS EYES ON HIM AND SAID SON OF DEVIL, FULL OF ALL DECEIT AND ALL CUNNING, YOU ENEMY OF ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS, WILL YOU CEASE TO PERVERT THE RIGHT WAYS OF THE LORD (ACTS 13;9,10).
Paul says to a man that he is the don of the devil. We know that it might not possible for the man to the man to born to the devil. But why Paul is saying that? Deceit cunning and enmity of righteousness is the nature of the devil the same nature is in that person. So Paul says that a person is son of the devil. Barnabas called as"SON OF ENCOURAGEMENT (ACTS 4;36). that means his nature is encouraging and also satan is called as" SON OF DESTRUCTION''(2 thess 2;3). that means the nature of Satan is destruction. So we can understand that the meaning of "SON" is not always born to someone also the nature of someone.
As well as we can understand that Jesus is the son of god because of not born to god but has the nature of God.''HE WILL BE GREAT AND WILL BE CALLED THE SON OF THE MOST HIGH (LUKE 1;32). Here Jesus is called the great."THE HOLY ONE WHO IS BORN FROM YOU WILL BE CALLED THE SON OF GOD(LUKE:1;35).
Here Jesus is called as son of god because of his holiness as he was holy."FOR IN HIM ALL THE FULLNESS OF DEITY DWELLS BODILY(COL:2;9)." HIS SON IN THE RADIANCE OF HIS THE VERY IMAE OF HIS SUBSTANCE....(HEBREW:1;3). According to these verses fullness of deity is in Christ so he is the son of God.
No man can cease the wind except God. Jesus is the power of God. So, he is the son of god. No one can change rock to bread but God can do that. So Satan told Jesus that if you are the son of God. No one can come down alone from the cross only god can.
So the thief told Jesus that if you are the son of God you come down from the cross. Jews understood the meaning of "SON OF GOD". "BUT ALSO CALLED GOD HIS OWN FATHER MAKING HIMSELF EQUAL WITH GOD (JOHN:5;18)." YES JESUS IS EQUAL TO GOD (PHILIP:2;6).
So he is the son of God. God is creator, Eternal, Holy, etc.. these all properties are all present in Jesus Christ.
So Jesus is the son of god "THE ONE AND ONLY BEGOTTEN SON WHO IS THE BOSOM OF THE FATHER HAS DECLARED HIM (JOHN:1;18). The footnote meaning of only begotten son is only-begotten, god. So Jesus is the son of God means equal with God, but not second god, the second person in the trinity.
We have one god in three persons.All three persons are co-equal in all deity aspects. Finally, the essence of godliness is in Jesus Christ. So he is called a son of God.
So, If we believe that Jesus is the "SON OD GOD".i.e; equal to god, this name i.e; the essence of Deity, Holiness, Creator, Eternal, Saviour
etc. We might have life.
